To the Editor of the Crimson:

Current veiled reports suggest that there will be no Anglo-American offensive in the very near future. Operations are to be limited in both scope and objectives. Meanwhile Admiral Stark in London warns of heavy losses due to submarine activity.

If all this is true, then the immediate job of defeating Germany will be up to Russia alone. The point is not that Russia is unequal to the task. Russia has been on the offensive and it is Hitler who now has his back to the wall. The "Help Poor Russia" cry will soon change to "Jump On The Band Wagon Before It Is Too Late." If we fail to pitch in now Russian diplomacy will dominate the peace table.

There is no indication, however, that Russia wants this responsibility. In any event, she is not liable to turn the peace conference over to joy riders. The traditional concept of a United Nations victory with a grateful, but weakened Russia grudgingly admitted to the peace conference through the back door is no more than wishful thinking now. If we wish to be an effective force in writing the peace we must begin to pull an oar now before it is too late. Sidney Entmacher '45.
