FOUNDATION OF CHINESE OBELISK STRENGHTENED

Under the supervision of the Department of Buildings and Grounds, work was begun on Monday to put the Chinese obelisk, located in the Yard between Widener and Boylston Hall, on a more permanent foundation. Concrete will be substituted for wood, which is now being used to support the obelisk.

At its presentation by the Chinese alumni of the University during the tercentenary festivities in the fall of 1936, it was undecided as to its final position and therefore no lasting arrangement was made. Since no more suitable situation has been found in the six year interim the obelisk will remain in the same place on its permanent foundation.
