Solomons Situation Unaltered

WASHINGTON--In the absence of an official Navy communique, a Navy spokesman said today "the situation remains unchanged in the Southwest Pacific"--implying that American and Japanese air-sea forces still are sparring for position in the southern Solomons.

Opposing forces have been engaged in "sporadic encounters" since Jan. 29, when a force of Japanese torpedo planes attacked a U.S. task force on a convey mission south of Guadalcanal.
