THE MAIL

To the Editor of the Crimson:

It is distressing to me to see that it is always the John Reed Society or some other radical organization that comes out against Jim Crowism.

It is about time someone spoke up for the majority of the 99.9 percent of American citizens who are not Communists but who believe that justice toward our fellow Negro citizens is one of the most consistent means of maintaining the basic tenets of American democracy based on the liberty of the individual. This is one of the chances we get to prove the superiority of the American system.

If we do not act now, we may some day see our colored friends driven into the Communist ranks, a consequence looked upon none too happily by Negro as well as white leaders.

I suggest a petition similar to that of the John Reed Society advocating inter-racial army units to be sponsored by the Student Council, the representative of the whole student body. Lionel Kunst '44.
