Accepting a reserve commission in the Navy as a lieutenant, Varsity football line coach Lyal Clark today packed away his familiar red gym clothes and left by train for Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Clark began his career on the gridiron when he played guard for four years for Western Maryland, where upon graduating he became assistant coach to Harlow. He was called from there to be head coach of the University of Delaware.
When he was later persuaded by Harlow, who was then with Harvard, to coach the Crimson line, he served also as a College physical director. Clark left South Station this morning at 12:30 o'clock in the company of Denny Myers, head coach of Boston College, who is also bound for Chapel Hill with the same mission and rank.
