Wage Ceiling Enforced

WASHINGTON--The War Labor Board today declined to relax it's "Little Steel" wage ceiling formula, refusing a general wage increase to 180,000 Chicago packinghouse workers despite concerted labor demands for modification.

In a sweeping reaffimation of existing policy, the Board suggested as an alternative way of raising wages to meet rising living costs that the affected "Big Four" packing firms "explore fully" the possibilities of lengthening the work week beyond the present 40 hours.
