3 MIKKOLAMEN TO WIN PRIZES

Improvement Awards Given Today, House Relay Slated

Breaking up the dusty monotony of a hot, summer season practice, three prizes for improvement, and a quarter mile trophy will be awarded by track coach Jaakko Mikkola this afternoon, while at the same time a chance will be given all comers to participate in inter-House relay races.

One improvement prize will go to Frank Coolidge, whose time of 9.8 seconds in the 100, and 21.4 seconds in the 220 against Andover in a Freshman meet last year makes him one of the most promising runners on the squad.

Bonner Famed in Discus

Jack Bonner, who will not be here to receive his award tomorrow, is king of the discus for the Crimson. It was his throw of 154 feet that took the Heptagonal meet for Harvard last spring.

Third improvement prize will go to last year's Freshman star, Peter Garland, who, besides winning three other events against Yale in the meet last spring, broke the shot put record with a throw of 49.6.

Ellis Wins Quarter Mile Trophy

The Westmore Wilcox Trophy in the quarter mile, presented for the first time this year, will go to Bill Ellis, who is also not here for the summer session.

All runners, experienced and amateur, may participate in the House Relays. The first will be a medley: an 880 runner, then a 440 runner, a 220 runner, and lastly the mile. The second event will consist of four milers. The next race is for four 220 yard runners, and the fourth for four 440 men. A fifth race will take in ten 110 yard runners, and last of all is an event for four 880 men.

Future Glimpses

Aside from an intramural meet staged last July, there have been no meets held or on schedule for Jaakko Mikkola's hard working charges. Many of the team, however, are expected to put in entries for the A. A. U. meet planned for August 30.

After prolonged negotiations, plans for a meet with soldier-trackmen from Fort Devens are still on the fire. Although Devens is more than willing to participate in a meet, the date is still undecided. If the meet comes off it will probably be early next week.
