Jim Mains, right-handed Yardling fireballer, turned in his best performance of the season yesterday afternoon at Soldiers field, limiting Huntington School to four hits in a 7 to 0 victory for the '45 sluggers.
A four-run second inning, featured by a timely triple by Hugh Hadley which cleared the bases, sent the Freshmen out into a read which they coasted on there after. It was the second straight victory for Mains, who toiled 16 innings last Friday to subdue Northeastern's Cubs.
Leading the Yardling attack with two hits were Captain Vinnie Leahy, Jim Apthorp, and Hoss Hamlen. Don Richards clouted a pinch-hit double in the eighth, and he went all the way home when the left fielder allowed the ball to get away from him.
