M. I. T. ECONOMIST WINS WELLS PRIZE

Annually presented for outstanding research in economics by Harvard students and recent graduates, the David A. Wells prize of $500 has been awarded to Paul A. Samuelson, associate professor of Economics at M. I. T., it was announced by the University yesterday.

Graduated from the University of Chicago in 1935 Samuelson received his A.M. from Harvard in 1936. The following year he was elected to the Society of Fellows at Harvard, and obtained his Ph.D. here in 1941.

At the Business School the Fred J. Kennedy prize of $75 for the best paper by a second year man on retail distribution was awarded to Philip Kramer of New York.
