Princeton, Penn Gain Wins Over Racquetmen

Tigers Take 6-3 Victory; Quakers Triumph, 7 to 2

It was a tough weekend for Coach Jack Barnaby's Varsity tennis team, which dropped matches to both Princeton and Pennsylvania, the first on Saturday by a score of 6 to 3, the second yesterday by 7 to 2.

At Princeton, in the singles, Tigerman Dick Bender defeated Jim Jenkins, 6-0, 6-3, and Moore smacked Crimson captain Orme Wilson by scores of 6-3, 6-0. Hugh Hyde won his match by 6-4, 7-9, 6-4, while Ham of the Tigers beat Thorne Kissell by 8-6, 6-2.

Bender also defeated Howie Ezell, 6-2, 6-3. Ted Cohn vanquished Princeton's Bellows by 6-3, 6-3. In the doubles Hyde and Sorlien defeated Moore and Walker by 2-6, 6-3, 9-7; Chamberlain and Canada defeated Will Nichol and Orme Wilson, 6-4, 6-0; and Buttenheim and Conze defeated Burton and Cohn, 6-3, 6-3.

Pennsylvania swept the singles as Tesman defeated Jenkins, 6-8, 6-1, 9-7; McCracken won 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 against Hyde; Schafer downed Orme Wilson, 6-2, 6-4; Olson took Cohn by 6-1, 6-4; Lin Burton lost to Penn's Peele by 6-3, 7-5; and Kissel was defeated by Garret, 6-4, 3-6, 10-8. The Crimson got its only points in the doubles, when Hyde and Dick Sorlien beat Tesman and Olson; 8-6, 6-3, while Jenkins and Ezell were defeating Peele and Lefkowith, 7-5, 6-4.
