Local opera fans will have a chance to hear a preview of the forthcoming Lowell House production "Solomon and Balkis," when the Columbia Workshop presents a half-hour condensation of the opera at 2:30 o'clock Sunday over a nationwide CBS hookup.
"Solomon and Balkis," written by Randell Thompson '20, Director of Music at the University of Virginia, will be given at Lowell on April 14 and 15. The libretto is based upon Rudyard Kipling's "The Butterfly That Stamped," from his Just-So stories.
The fifth annual House production, the '42 opera, is the first ever to be aired over any major network. Leading roles will be sung by students at Radcliffe, the Medical School, and the New England Conservatory of Music.
