Paced by Captain Finn Ferner, the Crimson skiers came up one notch from sixth place at last year's Dartmouth Carnival, to fifth at Hanover over the weekend, with New Hampshire's well-balanced team sweeping the field to retain the title for the second successive year.
Ferner tied the Wildcats' Freshman sensation, Steve Knowlton, for first on the Moose Mountain downhill trial. This is the best that any Harvard skier has probably ever done in intercollegiate competition. Yardling Duncan Reid repeated the fine performance which he gave at Woodstock by coming in seventh.
The team held its own in the cross country with Ferner in ninth place and others following closely, but fell apart completely in the jumping, thereby reducing its combined score. The slalom also failed to produce any spectacular Crimson showings.
