News from the Houses

Out to break the supposed jinx of Friday the 13, Leverett House is flaunting tradition and superstition by holding its winter formal dance on that date next week.

The spirit of defiance extends even to a blackout, if one should be called. Bradford D. Haseltine '43, chairman of the Dance Committee, says that he is confident that lack of light would not spoil the affair.

Frank McGinley and his 12-piece orchestra will provide the musical portion of the evening's entertainment. McGinley sings himself, and is bringing a girl vocalist to help out.

Winthrop's winter formal will follow a week later, and the Puritans will take the occasion to do their bit in the national war effort. Instead of corsages, the girls will be given the same value in defense stamps.

Beating the gun on winter dances, Dunster will have an informal record dance tomorrow night, open to all students in the College upon payment of 50 cents for a couple or one dollar stag.

On the same night, Kirkland is having another record dance, but the Deacons' affair will be limited to House members. Charles H. McCroskey '43, newly elected Dance Committee chairman, stated that the winter formal has been set for March 13, but no definite plans have been made for it.

At Lowell, plans for the formal are up in the air pending selection of a band. The date has been set, March 20, committee in charge, stated that the but Elmer H. Taylor, chairman of the group would not begin work as yet because "the kind of dance depends on the kind of band."
