Axis Subs Plague Caribbean

Enemy submarines added three more victims to their growing list as Army authorities admitted that U-boats are entering the Caribbean theater in increasing numbers.

A Panama-registered tanker was torpedoed off the Island of Aruba in a renewed outburst of Submarine activity and headquarters of the U.S. Army at Port of Spain, Trinidad, said that two vessels were damaged by explosions apparently caused by torpedoes.

A German submarine shelled the Island of Aruba for the second time but failed to damage the world's largest oil refinery. The U-boat was believed to have been sunk by bombers which sped to the attack.
