Capturing the final decision in a fast-moving overtime period, the '45 hoopsters sudued a rugged Worcester five, 59-55, here yesterday. Leading up to the final minute, the Yardlings were tied by a last-chance free throw.
Coach Al McCoy started his five regulars, Frank Bixler, Dean Hennessy, Mike De Leo, Don Richards, and Captain Mike Keene, who proceeded to draw away from the determined prepsters. Withdrawing the first quintet, McCoy uncovered Dick Forster who led the second stringers to a halftime advantage of 29-23.
In a whirlwind closing half, the '45 cagers maintained their lead despite furious attacks by the fast-moving opponents. In the closing minutes, the fateful foul was committed and the shot neatly completed tieing the score, 50-50, and forcing the contest in to a five-minute overtime period.
Quickening the pace, the Freshmen notched four goals and a foul to overpower the Worcester aggregation which held on to threaten again near the close of the extra time.
The Yardlings thus chalked up then seventh win of the season against two losses. The cagers week is completed at Marion Saturday, where 'Tabor Academy will provide the opposition.
