THE MAIL

To the Editors of the Crimson:

It seems to me that, now that the cold weather has set in, Harvard could dispense with the compulsory military drill it instituted last year. In the first place, the facilities of the Indoor Athletic Building are so very limited that marching has become a confusing part of military life, due to the contradiction in the very audible commands given at the same time by the many Military Science instructors as they send their charges through their paces. Secondly, the Army will only repeat the process of teaching one to march after induction. The idea behind compulsory physical education is physical fitness, not military fitness. The Army will take care of its own. Alexander Louis Jackson III '44.
