WASHINGTON--U. S. Army planes have taken more than a two-to-one tell of Axis aircraft on all battlefronts, destroying 279 enemy planes with a loss of only 114 from February to mid-September, and are "more than a match" for the enemy, a House military affairs subcommittee reported tonight.
Based on a two-week investigation of Army Air Force combat equipment, the report said American bombers and fighters ran up a 75 to 15 score on the enemy during August, a record of only one loss to every seven planes destroyed.
The committee praised the performance of Army bombers and flatly rejected charges that fighters are inferior to those of Germany, Italy, or Japan, declaring that "in the final analysis, it is the box score that counts."
