BROKEN RACQUET HALTS TENNIS MATCH IN DRAW

Gene Sauds, Freshman champion and number three man last season, was on his way to a possible upset yesterday when he took the first set, 6-3, from number one-seeded Bob Freedman in a second round match of the University Tennis Tourney.

A broken racquet string forced Sands to call a halt to the match after Freedman took the second set 6-3, and the contestants will replay the contest sometime this week.

Sands used an extra racquet of Freedman's after this string broke, but, finding the new racquet unsatisfactory, asked to postpone the match until he could have his string replaced.
