Ski Conditions

With temperatures hovering neat freezing all over New England, snow conditions are reported best on the Eastern Slopes region and in Vermont, and snow flurries are expected in northern portions.

At Cannon mountain, skiing is poor, with from nine to 20 inches of settled powder, and the rest of Franconia Notch has only five inches or less. Canaan, Bristol, Plymouth, Tamworth, and Wood stock, Vt all report good skiing on from six to eight inches of cover.

Jaffrey Nearest

Jaffrey, N. H. is the nearest place to Boston with good conditions having five inches of powder, but nearby Keene, Peterboro, and Walpole report no snow.

This leaves as the best bets for this weekend Waterville Valley, 14 inches of base with four inches of power; Mt. Mansfield, 17 to 37 power; North Conway, 14 to 26 power; Pinkham Notch, 22 base with two powder; Jackson, 14 powder; Intervale, 12 powder; and Bartlett, eight powder.

Farther north, out of reach of the majority of exam-ridden skiers, the Laurentian Mountains offer two inches of new powder on a 16-inch base.
