WASHINGTON--The nation tonight was given glimpse of a gigantic military blueprint which will double the war strength of the Army to 3,600,000 men this year and include vast expansion of mechanized ground forces and an air corps second to none.
Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson told a press conference the Army's program will double the armored forces, more than double air combat strength and raise the strength of the Army--now at 1,700,000 men--to 3,600,000 by the end of the year.
