To the Editor of the Crimson:
This weekend representatives of the state's young people, called together by the Massachusetts Youth Council, convene for their annual state-wide assembly at the YMCU in Boston. The Youth Council, which has always involved large numbers of young working people in its actions, has never received the consistent support it needs from students, particularly Harvard students. The traditional isolation of college undergraduates from community life has prevented, in large measure, effective cooperation on matters of common concern. But the acuteness of problems today, the immediate question, for example, of conscription and its impact upon the lives of students, and all youth, calls for joint consideration and action.
In passing, it is important to note that the Massachusetts Youth Council has succeeded this year in pursuing a very practical program marked by striking successes on the legislative and other fronts. An anti-discrimination bill, introduced for the MYC in the Massachusetts General Court passed both houses with a large majority and has now become law.
Harvard students, especially residents in this state, should participate in the sessions in Boston, make the contribution of which they are capable and profit from association with other young people of varying background and creed. Further information concerning program, speakers, etc., may be secured from the Massachusetts Youth Council, 38 Chauncy St., Boston, Devonshire 8860. Lawrence Shubow '44.
