University Press Publication Gets Second Pulitzer Award

Publishers of the "The Atlantic Migration" by Marcus L. Hansen, the University Press has become the first American university press to receive the distinction of printing two Pulitzer Prize books.

"The Atlantic Migration" was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in History in New York City yesterday afternoon, its author, Marcus L. Hansen, attended the graduate school from 1917 to 1922, receiving a Ph. D. degree upon graduation. He died in Redlands, California May 11, 1938, shortly before completion of his book. With Hansen's notes, Arthur M. Schlesinger, Francis Lee Higginson Professor of History, was able to prepare the final printing.

The first Pulitzer Prize winner published by the University Press in 1938 was the "History of American Magazines" by Frank Luther Mott.
