Greek King Eludes Nazis

CAIRO--King George II of Greece has reached Egypt from invaded Crete after a sensational escape from German parachute troops who seized his royal residence neat Canea and pursued him across 7000-foot mountain peaks, it was revealed officially tonight.

The 51-year-old monarch succeeded in leaving Crete on Friday after a four-day flight during which a New Zealand bodyguard sometimes battled the Germans only 800 yards behind to cover the escape of the King and his party.

It was believed that King George would join the monarchs of other Nazi-overrun nations in England to "continue the fight."
