Holcombe Talks at Eliot

"I regard war as hostile to the genius of our American institutions," concluded Arthur N. Holcombe '06, professor of Government, in an H. I. U. discussion last night at Eliot House.

Tracing the effects of war on elections, freedom of speech, and the balance of power, Holcombe concluded that "the future of constitutional government depends in large part on the avowed purposes of a military intervention. If we are committed to war aims inconsistent with the American system, we will have difficulty returning to it."
