VICHY--Violent pan-Arab nationalist disorders allegedly spurred by foreign agents spread tonight throughout Syria where French troops, opening fire on rioting crowds, killed at least seven persons and wounded others.
The disorders gained headway with particular violence in the four largest cities of the French mandate territory as Arab leaders spurned the French Government's compromise offer for a settlement of the conflict by means of a local government reorganization.
Bloody clashes of Arab nationalists with armed French troops and police occurred during the day and schools and main bazars were reported to have been closed until complete order is restored.
A severe censorship was clamped down on reports abroad of the disorder and only official dispatches reached Vichy, but they were sufficient to reveal the seriousness of the conflict and the Arabian influence in Syria.
