Kirkland House came through with victories in two contests and a loss in one, in battles with champion Yale colleges over the weekend. They won the swimming meet with Trumbull, 31 to 26, took the basketball crown from Pierson 50 to 14, and lost the squash match to Silliman, 4 to 1.
Bill Jay was outstanding for the Deacons, winning the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events, and swimming second on the victorious 200-yard relay team. Mike Brody won the 100-yard breaststroke, placed third in the 50, and anchored the winning relay team, whose victory decided the meet.
High-scorer for Kirland in the basketball massacre was Bryan Smith with 16 points, followed by Howle Ezell with 12, Ed Vogler with 10, and Bob Massey with 8.
Only Crimson victor in the squash match was Tom Sears, who beat his Eli opponent by a score of 3 to 2. All the other matches went to five games, except that of Walter Dawson, who lost in three straight, Bill Kehl, Tom McGann, and Alan Anderson were the other racquetmen playing for Kirkland.
