Hoopsters Tackle Mighty Lions

COLUMBIA POWERHOUSE ON TRAIL OF SECOND WIN FROM COLUMBIA FIVE

Harvard's unpredictable basketball quintet will play host to the second place Columbia five at 8:30 o'clock tonight in the Indoor Athletic Building. At 7 o'clock, the Yardlings tangle with Dean Academy.

The Columbia team, ignored in pre-season prognostications, has become practically the only threat to Dartmouth for the league title. In seven contests to date, the Lions have won five and lost two, Dartmouth and Cornell having turned the trick.

In their first meeting with the Crimson, the New Yorkers broke through the Harvard zone defense to run up a decisive 42 to 28 win. Will Hasslinger, with 15 points, and Captain John Cerrone, with ten, were the high scorers, while Joe Romano led the Feslermen with eight.

Impressive Record

In league competition, Columbia has lost to Cornell 38 to 22 and Dartmouth 49 to 36. It has defeated Yale twice, 40 to 38 and 38 to 31, Princeton 44 to 39, and Pennsylvania 50 to 39 besides the victory over Harvard.

The Lions boast two of the league's highest scorers. Hasslinger, with 86 points, and Cerrone, with 70, stand fourth and sixth in the individual scoring race. These two men will play center and forward with the other forward, Stewart McIlvennan, the team's third high man. Frank Primich and Len Will will start at guard.

Coach Wes Fesler has gone back to the early season starting lineup for tonight's encounter. Captain Franny Simpson, the team's high scorer against B.U. will team at forward with Joe Romano. Ed Rothschild will play center and Bud (J. Christopher) Finegan and Ed(Frank P.) Buckley will play guard.

Despite the knockdown, drag out defeat at the hands of the Terriers Wednesday night, the whole team is in good physical condition. Whether Coach Fesler has de-Columbia offense will be seen tonight as the Crimson seeks revenge for their previous defeat on February 8.

In the Freshman game with Dean, vised the correct defense for the tricky Captain George Burditt and cohorts will be out to make up for their loss Wednesday night to the powerful Terrier cubs. It was the second defeat of the year for Skip Stahley's men, having dropped a one point decision to the Tufts Jayvees earlier in the season.
