To the Editor of the Crimson:

I went to the recent Harvard-Princeton basketball game and I feel thoroughly ashamed of the spirit shown by spectators and team alike. Rattling your opponent is, I realize, part of baseball and slugging him part of hockey (both introduced from the professional ranks); elaborate techniques for razzing him seem to be a recent incorporation into basketball strategy. But there is certainly no excuse for a team to rattle an opponent from the bench, as occurred in this game. Nor does it appear necessary to demonstrate college spirit by shouting insults to the referees and to members of the opposing team.

Failing self-discipline, a suggestion for improvement would be to make the cheer leaders responsible for controlling the spirit they arouse.

I realize that in T.T.T. (These Troubled Times) a letter of this sort may seem slightly ridiculous and old-school-tie. But a bit of fence-mending may not be amiss before we start remaking the world. The undergraduate reaction would be interesting to learn. "Class of '38,"
