This year, for the first time, five officers of the United States Army are studying here to be military attaches in Russia and to do Intelligence work in the Russian language.

The officers, all of whom are captains and graduates of West Point, were detailed to study at Harvard by the Military Intelligence Department of the War Department. The men take only courses which have to do with Russian history, Russian civilization, Russian customs and the Russian language, both in its conversational and in any of its technical aspects which might concern military matters.

Although this is the first time that the Military Intelligence Department has ever sent officers here for preparation, other branches of the Army have been doing it for some years new. Recently the Business School has had detailed men here from the Purveyance Division. Two of the five West Pointers now studying about Russia have been attending such courses as Professor Bruce C. Hopper's "International Relations."
