Over the Wire

(October 3, 1941--By United Press.)

NEW HAVEN, Eng.-Disabled German war prisoners who boarded two hospital ships here at dusk expecting their freedom within a few hours in exchange for British prisoners under a "mercy" armistice, were placed under heavy guard and their ships blacked out tonight when the repatriations plans suddenly were postponed.

Steam pressure was reduced, all lights on ships in this "port of mercy" were turned off, and military guards posted.
