Ski Team Will End Successful Season Sunday in Annual Dartmouth Slalom

Development of Skiing Here Shows Great Increase in Past Winter

Harvard ski racers will abandon their hickories for the season, officially anyway, after the traditional Harvard-Dartmouth slalom this Sunday, which will be set by Walter Prager on the near-perpendicular slepes of Tuckerman's Ravine.

The race will mark the finish of the best racing season so far, according to Manager Dave Stacey, but energetic enthusiasts will find good snow on Washington until well into May.

Minor Sport

There has been so much pressure by skiers at Harvard that this winter the H.A.A. voted that skiing be made a regular minor sport, and hope is high that perhaps next year they will appoint a permanent coach.

The expert members of the team fared well this winter in competition with leading racers from predominantly skiing colleges, especially as compared with past performances. The season started right after Christmas with the annual Intercollegiate Ski Tournament at Lake Placid, in which the Crimson ski runners pulled up from behind a star-studded list of opponents, and by virtue of complete cooperation and teamwork, placed a close second to Middlebury.

Wins at Williams

As a result of its showing at Lake Placid, the team was invited to the Williams carnival, and our racers showed their appreciation by beating seven colleges to take the meet.

The annual Harvard race on the Sherburne trail was held despite icy conditions which caused the breaking of six pairs of skis, and Yardling Dave Goldthwaite shot down in near-record time to lead the pack of more than 40 men.

Del Ames Prominent

Foremost among the consistent place-takers of the past racing season has been Freshman Del Ames, Hanover are who was brought up under the ski tutelage of Otto Sehniebs and who has been the Crimson's all-around man throughout the winter.

Captain Tom Winship, Flun Ferner, Roger Wilson, Tommy Thomas, Lindley Burton, A1 Eipper, Lloyd Butterfield. Bill Thurston, and Berb Weiner raced for the team; assisting them in the club races later on were Bungie King. Harry Hellmeyer, Herbie Green, and several others.

Announcement has been made of the election of Bill Wigglesworth '41 as manager to succeed Dave Stacey.
