CHANGE SOUGHT IN SWIMMING LETTERS

FINAL WORD NEEDED

Recommendation that major letter awards be presented to all Varsity swimmers who compete in two Yale encounters was passed by the Undergraduate Athletic Council at its last meeting, Frank S. Deland, Jr. '36, Graduate Secretary to the Council, announced last night.

In passing the recommendation on to the Committee on the Regulation of Athletic Sports for final approval, the undergraduate body made it clear that the old method of awarding major insignia to all those who score points in the Eli meet would still be in effect. The new recommendation would act merely as an addition to the old system.

Effective This Year

The action came as a result of agitation over the recognized unfairness of the old system under which only six Varsity swimmers received major awards during the past season. The recommendation would be effective this year.

Deland also announced the appointment of Sherm Gray '41, of Salt Lake City, to the post of Head Cheerleader for the coming year. He will name his own assistant.
