Yesterday's statement in the CRIMSON that this year's Freshman class, compared with 1942, received more C's and less honor or unsatisfactory marks is erroneous, according to Assistant Dean Reginald H. Phelps.

In computing the relative groupings of grades received in all courses regularly open to Freshmen, the Dean's Office contrasted this year's midyear marks with last June's final marks, and since final marks are generally higher than midyear grades, '43 suffered. Actually, the Yardlings show a large increase in honor grades, with a corresponding decrease elsewhere.

Under the new findings a rise of 2.6% is evident in honor marks, 38.4% of the markings listed being either A's or B's. C's dropped .6% to 44.3% and unsatisfactory marks fell from 13.1% to 16.1%.
