"With the kind of fight we showed against Seton Hall we ought to beat Yale," Varsity fencing coach Rene Peroy said yesterday of the meet which will be held tonight at 3:30 o'clock in the Indoor Athletic Building.
On paper, the two squads look about even, with the Crimson perhaps having a slight edge. The Elis gained a 14 to 13 margin in the Pentagonals, but that was definitely an off day for Harvard. Furthermore, Yale had tough sledding against the Columbia swordsmen, while the Peroymen disposed of them quite easily.
Poppa Grasson's Bulldogs will be particularly strong in sabre, and are likely to get a 5 to 4 win there. The Crimson's Tom Wright recently won the New England Open sabre title, while follman Ben Johnson captured the novice crown in the same weapon, but since Wright is still ineligible and Johnson will be used only in fell, that won't help much.
