FENCERS DEFEAT WEAK COLUMBIA SWORDSMEN

Bouncing back from its poor showing in the Pentagonal meet a week ago, the Varsity fencers, defeated a week but game Columbia team Saturday afternoon by a score of 10 1/2 to 10 1/2.

The Lions lost the fell division by a score of 6 to 3 as Captain Al Labastie and Crannie Jones led the Crimson assault. Paul Littlefield, Jesse Croach, and Lynn Brna enabled Harvard to win in epee, 6 1/2 to 2 1/2, but the strong Columbia sabre team eked out a 5 to 4 win.

The victory indicates that Coach Reno Peroy's charges are coming out of their slump. They have a better than even chance to beat Yale next Wednesday night, for the same Columbia team held the Elis to a narrow 14 to 13 win.

Playing at Worcester, the Yardling fencing team was defeated for the second time in a row by Worcester Academy, 17 to 19. Although the Freshmen won the sabre division, 5 to 4, the preceding losses in foil and epee had already sealed the fate of the Yardlings.
