Five hundred and eleven Seniors who went to the polls yesterday and Tuesday in the annual class balloting elected Thomas V. Healey, Phil C. Neal, and Ernest J. Sargeant to serve as First, Second, and Third Marshals, it was announced late last night.
Other class officers elected were: Donald MacD. D. Thurber, Treasurer; Leonard C. Holvik, Chorister; Tudor Gardiner, Orator; Edward C. K. Read, Odist; and Garfield H. Horn, Poet.
Picked for the five-man Album Committee in the Junior election were John F. Brooks '41, Dan E. Flickinger '41, Eliot L. Richardson '41, Seth C. Crocker '41, and D. Donald Peddie '41.
Healey Baseball Captain
Healey, who led the pack by a wide margin in the Marshal race with 199 votes, comes from Worcester and lives in Winthrop House. A tackle on the 1989 eleven, he will captain the baseball team this spring and is a members of Phi Beta Kappa.
President of the Student Council and Chairman of the Dunster House Committee, Neal is also a member of P.B.K. The former president of the Debating Council who is editorial chairman of his Class Album tallied 157 votes. His home is in Oak Park, Illinols, and he is a National Scholar.
Third Marshal Sargeant, of Leverett House and Spokane, Washington, watch-charm guard on the 1939 football team, is a member of his House Committee.
Lightbody Tallies 123
Other competitors for the post of Marshal, and their votes, were: James D. Lightbody, Jr., 123; William C. Coleman, Jr., 116; Mason Fernald, 108: Frederick Holdsworth, Jr., 98; Douglas Mereer, 88; Ward M. Hussey, 81; Eric Cutler, 80; Blair Clark, 69; John S. Stillman, 68; Torbert H. Macdonald, 66; Henry A. Burgess, 61; Langdon B. Gilkery, 40; and William H. Daughaday, 35.
Thurber, the Treasurer, who comes from Grosse Point, Michigan, and lives in Eliot House, chalked up 140 votes. His unsuccessful competitors and the votes cast for them were: Peter E. Pratt, 136; Calvin H. Elliott, Jr., 107; and James M. Baughart, 94.
Chorister Holvik of Elbow Lake, Minnesota, and Eliot House tallied 90 votes. Other candidates and their votes were: Charles D. Lutz, Jr., 70; James A. Rousmaniere, 67; David S. Burt, 63: Edward G. Dreyfus, 53; A. Jan P. La Rue, 50: Bayard S. Clark, 44; Howard P. Mendel, 35; and John L. Donnell, 29.
Gardiner, who walked away with the race for Orator with 183 votes, comes from Gardiner, Maine, and lives, in Claverly. Paul Olum tallied 111 votes, Enno R. Hobbing 109, and Paul W. Cherington 100.
Winning by the largest margin of any of the officers, Read, Class Odist comes from Villanova. Pennsylvania, and is a resident of Eliot House. Trailing him were Vinton Freedley, Jr., with 131 votes; Hal C. Thompson with 85; and Elliot Forbes with 63.
A resident of Winthrop House, Poet Horn comes from Long Beach, California. Unsuccessful candidates were David R. Simboli with 86 votes; John H. Huntington with 64; James B. Massie with 53; John W. Sever with 52; Cranston E. Jones with 48; Louis A. Waters, Jr., with 46; Parker W. W. Masters with 35; and James H. Lakeman with 17.
The Class Constitution was ratified by a vote of 327 to 120.
Those who failed in the Album race were: John M. London, with 108 votes; W. Russell Bowie, Jr., With 103; Eugene H. Nickerson with 99; Wiley F. Barker, with 96; Max D. Gaebler, with 95; Julian C.
