Harvard placed second to Yale's debating team at the annual Big Three-Little Three meet at Amherst over the weekend. The Ellmen took four out of five decisions, while Harvard won three out of five. Final standing of the teams was Yale first, Harvard second, then, in order, Amherst, Williams, Wesleyan, and Princeton.
The subject was, "Resolved, That the sales tax should be incorporated into the state taxation system."
Debating for Harvard was Payson R. Wolff '42 and Eliot I. Suider '41. Because of individual excellence, second place was granted Harvard despite the fact that Amherst also captured three out of five decisions. Wolff was awarded a medal for the best individual record in the series of contests. Snider was recently elected to the Varsity Debating Council.
The inter-House winter debating season will get under way shortly as soon as the tryouts in the various House have been completed.
