In preparation for the all-important Intercollegiate Ski Union meet on February 17 and 18, the ski team will split into two groups for rigorous training this weekend.
One group is to race in the Massachusetts State Championships on the "Thunderbolt" ski trail at Mt. Greylock for downhill practice. It will be led by Finn Ferner who was barred from the team competing at the Dartmouth Carnival last Friday because his rating with the University was considered that of a graduate student.
The downhill team which will compete in the I.S.U. meet will be determined from the results of this race. Among the leading contestants for positions are Herb Weiner, Bill Thurston, and Dick Whittemore, the schussmen's star jumper.
The second group, led by Captain Tom Winship, goes to durham, New Hampshire for jumping practice on Saturday and will then proceed to the Ski Club cabin at Jackson. Here they will receive slalom and cross-country instruction from part-time Coach Hermann Ostermaier.
