"The total defeat of Germany is the only way to rid the world of the Nazi menace," Erika Mann, daughter of famed Thomas Mann and a noted author in her own right, stated in a speech at Brattle Hall last night.
"Nazi educational methods have made unthinking machines of German youth, eliminating the possibility of an internal revolution without a total defeat," she added.
"All education in Germany is directed toward the ultimate goal of war, to which all other teachings are subordinated. Destruction of the family, the growth of hatred and cruelty, and the physical and moral weakening of youth have been the price which the German people have paid for Fascism," said Miss Mann.
Despite Nazi boasts of a better Germany, the health-standards of the country have been disastrously lowered, an item which may prove to be of great importance in the event of a long war. The rate of occurrence of diphtheria, scarlet fever, and infantile paralysis have more than tripled since 1933, Miss Mann pointed out; this constitutes a grave menace to the German war economy.
