WASHINGTON--The State Department today, in effect, disclaimed any responsibility if the Dies Committee investigating un-American activities holds public hearings on activities of German consular agents in this country.
This stand was indicated by Secretary of State Cord ell Hull who advised Chairman Martin Dies he must make his won decision on whether to hold such meetings.
Dies had turned over to the State Department what the Committee Chairman described as "certain evidence which we obtained showing the activities and propaganda of German consuls and agents."
