Stewart Wins Cross Country Race Again

Second Year He Has Captured Meet; Burwell Has Fastest Time

Despite a sizable handicap of two minutes and 40 seconds, Gilbert H. Stewart '42 ran to victory in the University Handicap Cross Country meet yesterday afternoon for the second year in succession, with a time of 20 minutes and 53.8 seconds.

William C. Palson, who turned in the best Freshman time, and Robert Burns, a junior, finished second and third respectively out of a field of 29 men. Captain Langdon Burwell who ran the fastest actual time for the three and seven tenths of a mile course was clocked under twenty minutes but could not overcome a heavy handicap and failed to finish among the first three.

Following the meet Coach Jaako Mikkola expressed a hope that more Freshmen would turn out for cross country. Only eight ran yesterday.

"The Varsity is shaping up well for the opener with Boston University next Friday but the Freshmen may be weak because so few have reported for workouts," he asserted.
