Suggested by the Columbus Dispatch as a possible appointee to the vacant post of president of Ohio State University, Howard L. Bevis, William Ziegler Professor of Government and Law, refused to comment last night on the rumor.
Professor Bevis, a judge of the Ohio Supreme Court from 1933 to 1935 and director of finances of the State of Ohio in 1935, came to Harvard in 1935. One of the best known professors in the University, he is the author of a number of books on law.
The position of head of Ohio State has been vacant since the resignation of George W. Rightmire from the post a year ago. At that time Professor Bevis was prominently mentioned as his successor.
The board of trustees of O. S. U., which elects the president, is holding its regular meeting today.
