Matrimony is made easy for Germany's fighting men by a recent decree. Every man in active service, irrespective of rank, may contract marriage without appearing before a registrar. The matrimonial candidate is required to submit a statement to any officer of the rank of major or higher, that he intends to marry a certain girl. If the bride-to-be appears within two months before the registrar of her home town and consents to the marriage, the tie becomes binding from that moment. If the soldier should die before the girl grants her consent to the wedding, the marriage is nevertheless considered valid, provided it meets with the approval of the "registered bride."
