HARVARD-YALE NETMEN TRIM BRITISH 12 TO 6

Gilkey, Burt, and Palfrey Lead in 12 to 6 Defeat of Oxford-Cambridge Squad This Summer

Over whelming superiority in singles encounters spelled victory for the Harvard-Yale not forces as they defeated the Oxford-Cambridge tennis squad 12 to 6 in a three day series on August 5, 6, and 7. The Harvard-Yale netmen copped sight of the 11 individual matches and had a 4 to 3 edge in the doubles.

Langdon Gilkey was the outstanding performer of the series, turning in two singles victories and teaming with Dave Burt in a doubles triumph in his three appearances. Gilkey was the no. 1 player on the combined American squad, while Burt and John Palfrey held down the no. 2 and 3 spots. Palfrey was the workhorse of the series, participating in five matches.

He gamed an even break in his two singles appearances and teamed with Stephens of Yale in two winning doubles matches in three engagements.

Bill Thorn of Yale was oustanding in two singles wins.
