Tom Healey is Coach Floyd Stahl's mound choice to attempt to continue the Crimson's pennant-ward march in E. I. L. baseball at 4 o'clock this afternoon on Soldiers Field against Pennsylvania.
This is the last home League contest for the Stahlmen until the Class Day game with Yale on June 21. It is also the third engagement of the week for the nine--they take on their fourth opponent, Holy Cross, at Worcester tomorrow.
Healey vs. Caputo
Healey has been saved for this afternoon's contest because the battle for the League championship is very close, and a single defeat received by the Stahlmen would throw the race wide open. Healey's pitching rival will be a rapidly improving Quaker Sophomore, Tony Caputo.
The Crimson are favored to take the measure of the Quakers and retain their slim lead in the League standings. Bob Fulton is still nursing a bruised arm received in the B. U. game, but he will probably be behind the plate today. The infield and outfield will be the same as the ones starting against the Terriers.
Quakers improving
The visitors, led by veteran coach Dr. Walter L. Carlss, have juggled their lineup repeatedly this spring and finally seem to have struck a winning combination. At present, they rate fourth in the League with four victories and three setbacks.
Slim Curtiss set them down 9 to 4 earlier in the season at Philadelphia, and today Slim will be ready to step in if Healey needs relief. It is more probable, however, that he will be saved for duty against the powerful Holy Cross Crusaders tomorrow. And then there is a rapidly improving Charley Brackett to consider.
Brackett has turned in two neat relief jobs and seems just about ready for an important assignment. He saved both the Northeastern and B. U. games when the starting flingers failed to go the route.
