Upperclassmen have tutored in History I more than any other course, according to the figures on upperclassmen in the CRIMSON tutoring school poll.
Government I, French E, and Economics A, all large survey courses, had the next largest survey courses, had the next largest number of enrolled students who tutor, the upperclassman returns revealed. Government I, the second on the tutoring list, however, lags far behind its companion course in the social sciences.
Fifty-four per cent of the upperclassmen who took History I went to cramp parlors for their instruction. Only 35% of the students in Government I received aid; French E comes next with 27%, and Economics A is third with 22%.
Less Tutoring
The percentage of upperclassman who went to tutoring schools when they were taking History I, Government I, and French E is considerably smaller than the percentage figures of this year's Yardlings enrolled in the same courses. Only in Economics A do the figures show any increase in upperclass tutoring activities as compared with the Freshman returns.
The upperclass body as a whole went to fewer lectures than the Freshmen who are taking the same courses this year, according to the poll returns. They report that in History I they went to only 55% of the lectures as compared with the Freshman figures of 86%
The attendance percentages in the other three survey courses indicate a smaller discrepancy between the upperclass and Freshman statistics, but the difference is probably because of the more lenient attendance requirements for the upperclassmen.
The figures on the amount of reading done in these courses indicate that the upperclassmen have done more reading in History I and Economics A than have the Freshmen. In Government I, however, the former did 65% of the reading as compared with the Freshmen's 71%; in French E the upperclassman figure is 67% of the reading as compared with the Freshman 75%.
