Chamberlain Gives Russia Assurances

LONDON--Prime Minster Chamberlain today, in a last minute effort to bring into Europe's "Peace Front", publicly in a single handed war against Germany.

Chamberlain, answering Moscow's objections before the House of Commons, admitted that the Soviets were suspicious of being drawn into an anti-aggression alignment in which they would be left "holding the bag" if Fuchrer Adolf Hitler's armies should strike castward to obtain more territory for the expanding German Retch.

Since Great Britain and France gave guarantees to Poland and Rumania promising them military aid in event of aggression, the Russians have suspected that the British might allow Germany to invade the U. S. S. R. by way of Latvia, Esthonia, Finland, or Lithuania.
