A professor of modern and contemporary French literature at Harvard for 22 years, Andre Morize was awarded Saturday the distinction of being promoted to the rank of Officer of the French Legion of Honor in recognition of his distinguished service during the World War.
The promotion was bestowed upon Professor Morize by the French ambassador at New York, Rene de St. Quentin. Professor Morize served as a captain in the French army from 1914 to 1917. He came to Harvard in 1917 and took charge of military training at the University. He assumed the duties of a professor of French literature as well. Previous to the war, Professor Morize was a professor at the University of Bordeaux.
When asked if he had anything to say about the honor conferred upon him, the popular professor laughed, said "I'm six feet three, don't smoke, and I don't use Pond's Vanishing Cream."
