Although not substantiated by University officials, it was authoritatively learned by the CRIMSON last night that Francis Keppel '38 will take next fall the post of assistant dean in charge of Freshmen, left vacant by the resignation of E. Francis Bowditch '35.
Keppel's acceptance was rumored to have been in the form of a cable from Rome where he is studying sculpture at the American Academy of Arts.
Bowditch Served Two Years
Dean Bowditch's resignation last fall concludes his tenure, which began in September 1937 as successor to Elting E. Morison '32. Dean Bowditch resigned to accept the offer of the position of Headmaster at The Oak Park School of Oak Park, Indians.
In September, Keppel will take up his new post as assistant dean in charge of Freshmen. As an undergraduate, he was active in extra-curricular activities. Last spring he graduated Cum Laude in English, his field of concentration.
Headed Student Council
As a Junior, Keppel was Student Council member in charge of Freshman affairs and in his Senior year was elected President of the Student Council. He was also Secretary-Treasurer of Phillips Brooks House and Chairman of the Eliot House Committee.
Keppel's appointment will probably be confirmed at an early meeting of the Corporation. It is also understood that another assistant dean will be appointed to Dean Hanford's staff in the near future.
