Taking the lead in the first period, the Varsity polo team triumphed, 16-14 over a strong Princeton trio in a hard-fought match at the Tigers' Riding Hall Saturday.
In the opening chukker, Coach Chester Sargent's riders easily chalked up four goals, but every point in the rest of the game was bitterly fought. The home team's terrific onslaughts in the last two chukkers pulled them close up to a threatening position, but Captain Ben Forbes's cohorts heroically managed to keep their lead.
Leading scorers for the visiting Crimson malletmen were Gay Dillingham, No. 2 and Forbes, No. 1, with seven and five goals respectively. First honors for the Orange and Black went to Captain Bob Eisner, who equalled Dillingham's total. FENCING VICTORY Rene Peroy's nimble-footed Varsity fencers downed Yale 17-10, at New Haven Saturday, as the Junior Varsity tied with the Blue, and the Freshmen, undefeated this season in Big Three competition, triumphed 15 1/2 - 11 1/2, over their opponents.
